1. Overview
You have the right to request deletion of your GiftMi account and associated personal data at any time. This includes your profile information, address, wishlist items (for creators), order history personal identifiers (for fans), and Instagram connection data (for creators).
2. How to Request Deletion
You can request account deletion through one of the following methods:
Method 1: Email request (recommended)
Send an email from your registered email address to contact@giftmi.in with the subject line “Account Deletion Request”.
Please include your account email and (if creator) your Instagram username so we can locate your account.
Method 2: Instagram DM
DM us at @giftmi.in from the same Instagram handle linked to your GiftMi creator account.
Method 3: Instagram permission revocation (creators)
Go to Instagram → Settings → Apps and Websites → Active, find “GiftMi,” and click Remove. This automatically deletes your stored Instagram access token. To delete your full GiftMi account too, please also send us an email.
3. What Gets Deleted
Upon confirmed deletion, we permanently remove:
- Your account profile (first name, last name, email, phone, hashed password)
- Your shipping address (creators) or billing address (fans), including encrypted address fields
- Your Instagram connection data, including stored access tokens, follower counts, and profile picture URLs
- Your wishlist items (creators) — both active and historical
- Your sent thank-you notes (creators)
- Your sender preferences and gift messages (fans)
- Your analytics data tied to your account
- Your active login sessions and refresh tokens
4. What Is Retained (and Why)
Indian tax and accounting laws require us to retain certain transactional records for up to 7 years. After your account is deleted, the following data is anonymized (stripped of personal identifiers) but retained:
- Order records (order number, amounts, dates, tax breakdown) — with name, email, phone, and address replaced by anonymous identifiers
- Payment transaction records (Razorpay payment IDs) for financial audit
- Aggregate analytics (platform-level totals, no personal information)
We also retain anonymized records of password reset attempts and login history for security monitoring, for up to 12 months.
5. Instagram Disconnection
When a creator account is deleted, we automatically:
- Delete the stored Instagram access token
- Notify Instagram's deauthorize callback so your connection is removed from Meta's records
- Remove your Instagram username, display name, profile picture, and account metadata from our database
You can also independently revoke GiftMi's access via your Instagram Settings → Apps and Websites without deleting your full GiftMi account.
6. Timeline
- Acknowledgment: We will acknowledge your deletion request within 3 business days.
- Verification: We may ask you to confirm the request to prevent fraudulent deletion (especially for creator accounts with active wishlists).
- Completion: We complete deletion within 30 days of verified request.
- Confirmation: We send a final confirmation email once deletion is complete.
